LOOSING THREADS

According to the "Lan Geek Dictionary," the term "loosing threads" refers literally to a thread that is not properly secured. Metaphorically, this concept represents an unresolved issue or problem that could lead to further complications or unravel a situation. When it comes to unfinished creations, the expression "loosing threads" may describe aspects of a work left disorganized or incomplete. Unfinished details or those lacking sufficient time and effort can result in future challenges or negatively impact the final outcome of the creation. In essence, loose threads symbolize the potential for issues if the work remains incomplete.

Another key element in the world of couture and craftsmanship is bead embroidery. This technique, which requires a high level of skill, attention to detail, and extensive time, emphasizes luxury and quality. Brands like Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, and Chanel create intricate designs featuring hundreds of thousands of beads, gemstones, and hand-sewn details, reflecting the connection between ancient craft traditions and modern high-fashion design. In the third outfit of my collection, I applied the bead embroidery technique to a classic tank top, using tiny beads on illusion fabric to create a ribbed fabric-like pattern. The white beads produced an illusion that blended the worlds of fast fashion with the artistry of craftsmanship.

The project incorporates various knitting techniques, including hand knitting with two needles—an ancient craft—and industrial machine knitting. The conflict between consumer culture and craftsmanship is reflected in the comparison between computerized knitting and traditional hand knitting. The bag demonstrates the act of knitting as unfinished, much like the white sweater, symbolizing the slow and deliberate process of garment creation.

In the third outfit of my collection, I explored this concept through the fabric development of the jumpsuit-dress I created. I used raw denim as a base and incorporated stitching that mimics pinstripes, commonly found in fabrics for tailored suits. However, I deliberately left the stitching, executed with thread typically used for denim, unfinished across the garment. I chose to leave the threads frayed or "open," creating a fringe-like effect along the garment. This design element embodies the expression "loosing threads" as a representation of the "unfinished" within the garment.
